BELLINGHAM - A Bellingham company is filling prescriptions by mail to help U.S. citizens get cheaper drugs from Canada. It means people no longer have to wait to cross the border or see a Canadian doctor, to get prescriptions at Canadian prices.
When 77-year old Don Peterson of Bellingham fills just three of his prescriptions, it costs him $427.
"We all sing the same blues about just how far that Social Security check doesn't go," said Peterson.
But this week, he and his wife Joy got the same prescriptions for $286, and they never had to leave home to get them.
The Petersons got the medications through CanDrug USA, a Bellingham company that gets Americans prescriptions from across the border, where they are less expensive.
The company, run out of a Bellingham home, gives customers the choice of calling or stopping by. They can also use the Internet, but company owners have found the majority of customers are seniors who don't use computers.
The customer's own doctor fills out prescription forms and faxes them to a Canadian pharmacy partnered with CanDrug USA. Then the pharmacy sends the drugs directly to the American customer.
