PORT ANGELES - An ambush on Marines in Naseriya, Iraq, brings painful irony to a Port Angeles father.

His son, 23-year old Brendon Reiss, is now listed as missing in action. Brian Reiss knows all too well what his son may be going through.

He was shot down and listed as missing in action three times during the Vietnam War. Reiss worries that if his son has been captured, he may be tortured.

"An officer is a plum for information. My son is a Sgt. Which would also make him a prime candidate for interrogation," said Reiss.

Brendon Reiss was trying to secure a bridge over the Euphrates River near Naseriyah when his unit was ambushed with heavy fire. The Marines ran for cover. No one has seen the younger Reiss since.

His father and second wife came to Port Angeles to retire. Over time, their conversations became less frequent.

"You know, you always think you should treat every moment as the last moment of your life. But you never do. None of us do, and we always think the next day will happen. This is a wake up call," said Brendon's step-mother, Carol Reiss.
