Microsoft Buying Google?
NEW YORK - Google is the dominant Internet search engine. Microsoft the dominant software firm. Are the two destined to become something bigger than the sum of their parts?

Maybe.

There's a published report that Microsoft has been talking with Google about a possible combination.

The New York Times reports that the high-flying search company has recently met with the software giant and explored a partnership or even a merger.

Microsoft has been looking to enter the popular and ad-generating search engine business, and according to the article, approached Google within the last two months to discuss options.

Meanwhile, Google is meeting with bankers in preparation for its highly anticipated initial public offering. The Times says Microsoft's overture appears to have gained little traction as Google indicates it still prefers going the IPO route.
