Residents Learn About Sex Offender Neighbor
LYNNWOOD - A sex offender convicted of a horrific crime has served his time in prison, and is now moving into one nearby neighborhood.
"I wanted to know who was living in my area and what he looked like," said Teddy Duncan, a concerned neighbor. His name is Ronald Shawn Ryan. He's a Level III sex offender who now lives on Highway 99 at 161st Street in Lynnwood. Neighbors attended a public meeting at a Meadowdale Elementary School Wednesday night to get as much information as they can, because they live nearby. "It's scary especially when you know predators are in the area," said Randy Bishop, another concerned neighbor. Ryan was convicted in 1993 for breaking into a funeral home on two different occasions to sexually assault four dead women. He also stole property and has a history of drug and alcohol abuse. He spent 10 years in prison. Detective Dave Coleman with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said education is key - people must protect themselves from many people, not just Ronald Ryan. "For the community it really come down to education that's the how we keep from having future victims," said Detective Coleman. Ryan did not participate in sex offender treatment, because there's really not a program focused on Necrophilia. Ryan will be supervised for two years. He will get random drug tests and will have at least four Polygraph tests a year. |
