Island County Shooting Mystery
COUPEVILLE - A Renton man has been found shot to death in his SUV parked in a rural area of homes on south Whidbey Island.

A couple out walking discovered the body of 32-year-old Russel "Russ" Douglas over the weekend.

Island County sheriff's investigators say he had been shot in the head.

Douglas had been visiting relatives in the Langley area over the past several weeks.

He was last seen by his estranged wife on Friday morning when he reportedly left to run some errands.

Those who live in homes and vacation rentals near where his body was found, are also asked to report any suspicious circumstances they may have witnessed Friday or Saturday. The rural Wahl road area is about 10 miles from the Freeland business center; the street dead-ends above Mutiny Bay, on the west side of the island.

An autopsy was planned for Monday.

Anyone with information about Douglas - who he'd been seen with, where he'd been seen, what he was doing -- is asked to call Det. Mike Birchfield or Det. Sgt. Mike Beech at (360) 321-4400.
