SEATTLE - A family narrowly escaped a massive fire in their Capitol Hill home early Monday morning.
Fire crews responded to the 900 block of 13th Avenue East just before 7 a.m. to find flames shooting through the roof.
Officials told KOMO 4 News the two-story home is a rental property. It was described as an old Victorian-style home, similar to many in the neighborhood.
A van also caught fire when the blaze spread.
Fire investigators say that an overheated extension cord started the fire. The family had a lot of items plugged into it, including their Christmas tree lights.
Damage to the house was estimated at $750,000. Content damage was estimated at $75,000.
