Wreckage of Missing Plane Possibly Found
PIERCE COUNTY - Searchers using sonar equipment believe they've found the wreckage of a missing Cessna 170 in Puget Sound.

The plane vanished on February 29th. Pilot David Verstrate, of Federal Way, and his brother-in-law Harold Bennett, of Puyallup, were supposed to fly to Auburn from Sequim.

Deep Sea Sonar specialist Bob Mester volunteered to use his gear to help in the search for the missing plane.

On Saturday Mester took scans of an area off Herron Island. A week ago search crews spotted an oil slick on the surface of water, they believed it was oil leaking from the sunken plane.

Sonar scans of the site show a plane upside at the north end of the island.

Recovery crews won't know for certain if this is the missing plane until they can look at the registration number on the tail of the plane.
