PEORIA, ARIZ. - Bobby Crosby better watch out. He's going to have trouble sneaking up on people in the American League.

The rookie shortstop drove in five runs with a pair of homers - his fourth and fifth of the spring - to lead the Oakland Athletics to a 6-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday.

"Hopefully, they don't know too much about me yet," said Crosby, a first-round draft choice in 2000 and the son of former major leaguer Ed Crosby. "I hope I can keep it going, I guess."

Crosby, replacing departed star Miguel Tejada this season, had 22 homers at Triple-A Sacramento last year. Crosby played for the first time since colliding with A's second baseman Mark Ellis on Thursday against the Chicago Cubs.

Ellis is out for at least six to eight weeks with a dislocated shoulder. Tests Friday were inconclusive, and the team planned to send him for another MRI.

Crosby and Ellis collided when both players were diving for a ball hit up the middle by Sammy Sosa.

"I felt pretty good surprisingly," Crosby said. "In baseball, when you take three or four days off, it seems like awhile. But I felt great. Yesterday, I was a little sore. Today, I really didn't feel it at all."

A's manager Ken Macha said he kept Crosby out for three days as a precaution.

"We took our time," Macha said. "He could have played yesterday. If it would have been the regular season, he could have played the next day."

Mark Redman, acquired from Florida in an offseason trade, pitched 5 1-3 strong innings to improve to 3-1 this spring. Redman, a 14-game winner for the Marlins last season, allowed one run and five hits.

Ryan Franklin, who allowed 34 homers last season, gave up a two-run shot to Crosby in the second inning and a three-run drive in the fourth. The right-hander has given up six homers this spring.

"Two mistakes," said Franklin, Seattle's No. 4 starter. "My slider today was the worst it's been in two years. But my fastball was really good and my curveball was the best it's been all spring. And my changeup was really nasty. Just two mistakes."

Jose Lopez hit a three-run homer off new A's closer Arthur Rhodes in a four-run eighth. All four runs off Rhodes were unearned because of an error by second baseman Marco Scutaro. Notes: The A's traded minor league OF Jason Grabowski to the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash and optioned INF Graham Koonce to Triple-A Sacramento. ... It was the final spring home game for the Mariners.
