Paying Too Much For Auto Insurance?
SEATTLE - Are you paying too much for auto insurance? You could be, especially if you haven't compared rates in a few years.

And according to recent survey by Puget Sound Consumers Checkbook Magazine, price and service are not related.

"You can move to a low-priced company and get excellent service," says Checkbook's Robert Krughoff. When his group did a little price shopping, the quoted savings, he says, were "tremendous."

"For one couple in Tacoma, the price would have been $1,400 with Safeco and several other companies. That same couple would have paid more than $2,400 with State Farm."

Checkbook's survey of 6,800 local policy holders rated Safeco, MetLife and National Merit best on price. For service, USAA, Amica Mutual, Met Life and Pemco rated highest.

So how do you compare prices? Krughoff says web sites such as www.insurance.com, www.answerfinancial.com and www.insweb.com are good places to start.
