SULTAN - A pig headed to market makes a great escape.

The story begins with five little pigs. But only one would live happily ever after. The pig's life took a dramatic turn as she headed to slaughter in a farmer's truck.

"The window of this pick up truck popped open. And there were five or so pigs in the back. This one pig just sprung out into traffic," said Mark Steinway, of Pasado's Safe Haven.

Five pigs - but this one wasn't going to market. She took that window of opportunity and hoofed it right out of there. But she paid a price.

"A van hits the pig, a car slams into the back of the van," said Steinway.

But the farm truck kept going as the pained porker darted through traffic in Sultan on Highway 2.

"She saw her opportunity to escape and she said, 'This is it, I'm going for it,' " said Steinway.

Volunteers corralled the pig and brought her aaaallll the way home, to Pasado's Safe Haven, an animal sanctuary.

They patched up her injuries and named her Louise.

Volunteers figure the farmer won't want to pay her vet bills and face a ticket for leaving the scene swine sideswipe. So the sanctuary will become home.

"Free from any concern of becoming someone's ham or pork dinner," laughed Steinway.

Instead Louise will grow to 600 pounds and spend her days with two other rescued pigs - Lucille and Wiggles.

If their lazy, carefree life is any indication of Louise's future, it will truly be hog heaven.
