Horse Hurt By Fireworks Slowly Improving
ORTING - Jessica Carr has a little more hope on this day. "He does look a lot better," she says while looking at her horse, Stone.

Stone seems to be doing better, but his injuries are worse than she first thought. He may have more cracked teeth or worse, a broken jaw.

"If he has a broken jaw, there's not a lot you can do with a horse for a broken jaw. He's not going to chew if it hurts," she explains.

Last week a man stopped in front of the Carr's farm and threw a firecracker, probably an M-80, into Stone's pasture. The curious horse picked it up. Just then, the firecracker blew up in his mouth. It knocked out at least one tooth.

People who saw what happened told the Carr's the driver had a blue Jeep and they got a partial license plate number, but Pierce County Investigators say that's just not enough to go with.

"I'm furious! Absolutely furious that they have done nothing about it, that they haven't pushed," she says.

Jessica hopes someone will come forward a clue. While she waits, she'll nurse Stone.

"The problem now is that he's not eating. He's already lost a lot of weight. He's in too much pain to chew hay or grass and he struggles to swallow grain. Even the apples dropped off by a well-wisher don't tempt him. It scares me sometimes."

Jessica's only comfort is the dozens of strangers who have gone out of their way to tell her they care.

"I have to say when this happened I lost a lot of faith in people. But I guess in the same respect, I've earned a lot of faith back."
