PIERCE COUNTY - Two men were hospitalized with possible life-threatening injuries following a case of road rage near Tacoma.
One victim is in critical condition with a gunshot wound, the other is in very serious condition with a stab wound.
Witnesses tell KOMO 4 News it all started when a white Toyota pickup truck and a black Ford sedan were cutting each other off as they drove southbound on I-5.
Both vehicles got off the freeway at Highway 512.
Police say when the cars came to a stoplight on the overpass the driver of the pickup got out, walked back to the Ford and started kicking the car. The driver of the Ford got out and the two men started fighting.
During the fight the pickup truck driver sustained a severe knife wound across his arm. Police say he then walked back to his truck and grabbed a 9mm gun. He then walked back to the Ford and shot the driver in the stomach. Both men were rushed to Madigan Army Medical Center.
State police cannot believe the road rage incident went so far.
"This is what we fight every day," explained Trooper Johnny Alexander. "These aggressive drivers are out here driving and that usually leads to road rage situations and that's what we have here today. It's a road rage incident that went terribly wrong."
Police also found a half of a pound of marijuana in the pickup truck during their investigation.
Both drivers face multiple felony charges.
