SEATTLE - A woman is recovering after a man raped her early Tuesday morning at her home in the 2200 block of Minor Avenue East, Seattle police say.

Police say it appears the suspect broke in through a slightly open window and then pried the screen loose. The victim then awoke around 2 a.m. to find a man on top of her. She managed to hit him with a lamp, but the man then tied her up and continued to sexually assault her.

After the attack, the suspect stayed for another two hours before finally leaving police say. The victim eventually untied herself and called 911 from a neighbor's home.

When police arrived, the woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center for a medical evaluation.

Police say the man then stole her car as he left. They are looking for a silver 1997 Honda Civic with Washington plate 815-LUN. They've also tied the suspect to another car, a 1993-1997 Ford Probe.

The woman told police she didn't get a good description of the attacker, so police don't have much of a description to work with. They do believe that the suspect could have facial injuries from the woman's lamp that could help in identifying him.

Police are cautioning all residents to make sure as a general rule of safety to make sure your windows and doors are locked when you go sleep.
