There have been at least 15 accidents under the overpass over the past seven years. At a clearance of 14 feet, 4 inches, it's the lowest-lying overpass along the entire stretch of I-5.
That has caused many trucks to lose their load over the years as they tried to squeeze under; the most recent being a forklift knocked off a semi last January.
Now, the Washington Department of Transportation has unveiled a plan for a new bridge.
"It's going to be 18 feet 7 inches high," said Lloyd Ludtke with the Washington Trucking Association. "It could possibly be one of the highest bridges along Interstate 5."
Once the new bridge is built, trucks will no longer have to take the detour around Mount Vernon, which officials hope will bring more business into the city.
