7 Injured As Car Smashes Into Busy Store
Remarkably, none of those struck by the car suffered critical injuries.
"It sounded like... the ceiling was falling," said Rosalee Schiltz who saw the car come plowing through the front doors. "And it kept on going."
The 67-year-old driver put the 1980s-vintage Lincoln Town Car into reverse and rammed into the store, crashing through the glass and metal doors as the car careened inside.
The car barreled down the main aisle in reverse, smashing through kiosks until finally coming to rest against a pillar outside a jewelry store about 150 feet inside the building.
The driver and his wife were not hurt.
Witnesses said the man stumbled out of the driver's seat and looked a bit dazed.
Pierce County sheriff spokesman Ed Troyer said the driver told investigators that there was some sort of problem with the throttle.
"We're investigating whether that's the case or not, but at this point we don't really believe that it is," said Troyer. "But we do know that there are no drugs or alcohol involved."
Crews worked Monday night to clean up debris and make repairs to the store.
