SEATTLE - I'm not a big gun guy.
I support the idea that people can own 'em, but I think the 2nd Amendment has been stretched to the point of absurdity.
Case in point: carrying guns in Olympia.
Right now, anyone with a concealed weapons permit can pack a pistol into the legislative building.
That doesn't set well with lawmakers, who've been known to irritate people on occasion.
As one legislator aptly put it: "We do things that piss people off every day."
So the Senate has introduced a bill to ban guns in the legislative building.
As you might expect, the NRA is squealing like a pig that can't get to the trough.
Never mind that a concealed weapons permit won't let someone carry a gun onto an airplane, or into a courtroom, or into any federal building.
Nope, the NRA professes that personal protection in Olympia means something different.
Now, I've been to Olympia. The best source of protection around legislators is common sense and an IQ above room temperature.
I realize that excludes some NRA types, but certainly not all.
Fact is, there is no legitimate reason for guns to be allowed in the legislative building, or any other government building in Olympia.
Loose cannons are bad enough.
