Man Charged With Raping Young Neighbor
KING COUNTY - A 28-year-old Enumclaw man was in court Thursday, accused of raping his 12-year-old neighbor. Police are worried there might be other victims.

Greg Thorp kept his head covered in court until the judge assured him his face would not be photographed.

Thorp said nothing, and neither did Enumclaw police. Instead, they let the court records speak for themselves.

According to those court documents, police say Thorp confessed to having sex with the girl, beginning when she was just 11-years-old, and that it happened as many as 15 times since last September.

The two were neighbors in an Enumclaw apartment complex.

The girl also told detectives about the sex, saying that Thorp is her boyfriend, and that she loves him.

"I don't think it's fair that they're placing all the blame on him especially they don't understand his mental condition," said Jessica White.

Jessica and Sue White say they've known both Thorp and the girl for years. They say Thorp suffers from Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism and is on medication.

While the Whites don't condone Thorp's actions, they say he's not as bad as police are portraying him.

"That was wrong, what he did was totally wrong," said Sue White. "I don't think that making the other individual out as the total victim and not knowing what was going on is totally wrong."

But sexual assault experts say the age difference alone makes it very clear the 12-year-old girl is definitely a victim.

"He has knowledge beyond her years of relationships," explained Shelley Weaver with the Harborview Medical Center Sexual Assault Center. "This in no way could be consensual on her part even if she conceived it that way."

Detectives have not found any other victims so far, but they say the investigation is still open,

Thorp is being held at the King County Regional Justice Center in lieu of $250,000 bail. Formal charges are expected to be filed by Friday.
