EVERETT - An Everett family who spent the last week wondering who could do such a thing, has now learned their own son is under arrest for what looked like a hate crime.

Wes Washington and Crissy Kitchel couldn't believe the destruction or the time the crooks spent burglarizing and then trashing their Everett house.

"When you look at it, whether is race or personal, it's still hate. You can't tear apart someone's house like this and not call it hate," said Kitchel last week.

KKK, swastikas and the "N" word on a smashed mirror all pointed to a hate crime.

"We don't have to hate anyone for doing it - it's OK to be upset about it - but we just have to move on," said Washington at the time.

But moving on just got a lot harder now that that couple has learned their own 16-year-old son is under arrest for the crime.

"The son is a very angry young man," said Sgt. Dan Boardley. "It's not just in regards to this incident, but he has a history of anger."

Police say the teen and two friends planned the burglary, then made it look like a hate crime to cover their tracks.

"He must have some anger, I don't know," said a neighbor across the street.

Neighbors can't believe it was an inside job. Especially after the community came together to clean the mess, erase the hateful words, and help pick up broken pieces of the family's life.

"I think they will still rally around them," said neighbor Debbie Todd. "Whatever the problems are with the son - and I can't say what those are - but I think we'd all still help."

The two other teens are also under arrest - including one who used to live with the couple until they kicked him out for stealing.

The son is in juvenile hall. His parents asked the judge to keep him there for three more days while they sort out the new mess they now find themselves in.
