Its one of the more popular diets in the country and for good reason, says Senior Editor Nancy Metcalf. "It's real food. It's a diet that's very close to the way real people eat anyway, except less of it.
For its June issue, Consumer Reports analyzed the top nine diets in the country. The magazines ratings are based on combined scores for nutritional content and effectiveness (based on clinical trials). The highest overall rating went to Weight Watchers.
"The weight loss on Weight Watchers was not fast or extensive, Metcalf explains. The reason that it was the winner was it was the easiest diet to stick to."
Weekly group meetings and weigh-ins, she says, seem to give members the motivation and support they need to keep going. Consumer Reports says most of the Weight Watcher recipes are simple to prepare.
If you don't like to cook, you might want to consider Slim-Fast, Consumer Reports' No. 2 rated diet plan.
