EDMONDS - An elderly man drove his car right into a busy fast food restaurant Saturday afternoon, injuring himself and two other people.
Police say the 88-year-old driver was westbound on Main Street when he started accelerating and passing cars on the wrong side of the road. Next, his car veered through and intersection, jumped the sidewalk and drove right into a Skippers Restaurant at the intersection of 1st and Main Streets.
The car smashed through the wall before coming to rest in the corner of the building.
The driver was alert and talking when police arrived, although it looked like he hit his head pretty hard on the windshield.
An employee inside Skippers was hurt when a table was knocked loose and hit his leg. In addition, one restaurant patron was slightly injured by flying debris.
"They (Skippers) are very lucky no one was seriously injured or killed," said Officer Steve Harbinson with the Edmonds Police Department. "If there was anyone sitting at the table he hit, they would probably not be with us today."
