OLYMPIA - Next time, just recycle the darn thing.

The Washington State Patrol says an 18-year-old threw a pop can at a Department of Transportation sign, then lost control of his vehicle and drove off the road in a Thurston County accident.

Three passengers and the driver were seriously injured in the collision Thursday afternoon.

The Patrol says several people were not wearing seat belts and that contributed to the seriousness of their injuries.

They do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.

The State Patrol is recommending three counts of vehicular assault against Thomas E. Espey Jr. of Tenino.
