KING COUNTY - You can hop a bike and ride out at Marymoor Park and the county will provide the wheels!
A new, free bike program hits the trail today.
Workers unpacked the big blue lockers for the bikes Tuesday. They looked like little mini-bike barns. "These are the classic bike lockers you'll see at bike stations around the country or the Metro transit centers," said Tom Teigen, program manager of Strategic Partnerships and Enterprise Initiatives for the King County Parks and Recreation Division.
Teigen says all you need is one of the swipe cards and a helmet to get the bike out. "If you want to go from here to Seattle in a day, go for it!" he says.
But aren't they worried about the bikes disappearing? "We're hoping that's not the case."
Out of the eight community programs like this across the country, they've only lost one bike. That was in Pittsburgh.
These bikes are classics, nothing fancy, no gears and the brake is on the pedal.
"Basically you just jump on and enjoy them."
