The Sky Is Indeed Falling
The flurries are coming!
You know, if I ever get around to writing a movie parody of broadcast news, it's almost certainly going to center on how the mundane can be remanufactured as mesmerizing.
Somehow "snow" has been deemed a story of all-consuming interest.
News producers quiver at the thought of a reporter standing on a steep hillside, with cars abandoned at odd angles in the street.
News managers go all a-twitter while coordinating coverage of snowballs, snowmen, sleds and traffic slowdowns.
All done so that viewers can leave work early and rush home so they can turn on the tube and soak up all the stories about snow.
No snow here, but some snow over there.
Snow is sticking on that street, melting on some other street.
Look carefully: You can see it all right there on that Doppler radar thingy.
Or...right outside your window IF you can pull yourself away from the TV to go look.
Nope, Chicken Little's got nothin' on a big city TV newsroom when it comes to snow.
That's because the sky IS falling.
The sky is indeed falling.
One flake at a time.
