Does It Work? Follow-up: Urine Gone
SEATTLE - Here's and update on a product we tested a couple of weeks ago called Urine Gone. It's a pet stain and odor eliminator that uses enzymes to digest urine, feces and other organic matter in carpets and fabric.

Our volunteer Tami Michaels thought it worked really well but other consumers complain that some enzyme cleaners remove the stain initially -- only to have it return later.

Tami says 2 weeks later, the pet urine stain in her white carpet "does" appear to be coming back slightly.

As for the black light that comes with the Urine Gone as a so-called "stain detector" -- it's just a marketing tool. It has nothing to do with making the stain go away.

And don't confuse this with a similar enzyme product called "Urine-Off". The maker of that product says "Urine Off" hit the market more than a year ago and has been a top selling pet product on the Home Shopping Network.

Product Manager Kelly Kirschner tells KOMO 4 News "Urine Gone" just came out about 6 months ago using a similar name and similar marketing and that's creating consumer confusion.

Remember, there are numerous enzyme-based pet stain removers on the market. Some work better than others, but they all stress they are not effective when other cleaners have been used on the pet stain first.
