Everett Man, Brother Killed In Nevada Accident

WELLS, NEV. - Three people were killed and two were injured when a motor home crashed head-on into a livestock truck on U.S. 93 near Wells in northeastern Nevada, authorities said.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the motor home driven by Douglas Jay Vanlandingham, 44, of Everett, Wash., was heading south when it apparently drifted over the center line into oncoming traffic around 5 a.m. Thursday.

The motor home struck the driver-side door of an empty tractor trailer driven by 49-year-old Donald Bitz, of Claresholm, Alberta. The vehicles skidded out of control and down opposite embankments.

Both drivers were killed, the patrol said.

Vanlandingham's twin brother, Darryl, also from Everett, was ejected from an upper bunk in the motor home and also died, authorities said.

Douglas Vanlandingham's wife, Lynn, 40, and their 13-year-old son, Soren, were riding in the living quarters of the motor home were taken to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital in Elko with undisclosed injuries.

Trooper Rocky Gonzalez said another truck driven by Harvey Price Nelson, 54, of Terreton, Idaho, skidded through the wreckage and came to a stop along the east road edge.

Nelson, who also was hauling an empty livestock trailer, was not injured, the patrol said.
