BREMERTON - A 29-year-old registered sex offender has been arrested in connection with the abduction and rape of a 17-year-old girl in Bremerton Wednesday.
The teen was waiting for a bus to take her to school near the Bremerton Lanes Bowling alley when police say a man in a car ordered her to get in.
She did, and she told police the man then drove her to wooded area several miles away and raped her. He then dropped her off back in Downtown Bremerton about 60-90 minutes later.
Surveillance video from the bowling alley captured a picture of the suspect's car. Friday morning, a Bremerton officer found a car matching the description in the parking lot of a West Bremerton apartment complex and believed it was the car they were looking for.
While in the area, officers noticed a man walk out of the apartments and to the car. Officers say the man matched the description of the suspect, and was registered as a level-one sex offender.
The victim later identified the man as the one who raped her, and the man was taken into custody and booked on investigation of second-degree rape. Bail was set at $500,000. Meanwhile, investigators have since determined the suspect's car is the same one that was in the surveillance video.
Police say the man had just moved to Kitsap County earlier this month from Pierce County.
