Web Site Shows Man Held In Jail Knew Murder Victims
There are pictures on the Internet and correspondence between two of the victims and a man now in jail, who's being held on one million dollars bail.
Tacoma Police arrested Ulysses Handy III for investigation of felony assault. He was booked into the Pierce County jail on the same night that three people were found shot to death in a Tacoma house.
Handy has a page on myspace.com, which is an online community where anyone can create a personal web profile. On Handy's site it is obvious he knew two of the victims well.
One of the pictures on his site shows him with Darren Christian, one of the three people shot to death. Christian and Daniel Varo -- another of the three murder victims -- are both listed as 'friends' on Handy's site, and the page shows a lot of interaction between all of them - so it's obvious they knew each other well.
Right now Handy is in jail held on $1 million bail for two prior assaults -- one in October and one in January.
Tacoma police said that in both of those prior cases he is suspected of having shot someone.
Handy was arrested Wednesday night, the same day police found Christian, Varo and 21-year-old Lindy Cochran murdered inside a Tacoma house a few blocks south of the University of Puget Sound.
Investigators insist that the Wednesday arrest is in no way connected to the murders and that Handy is not a suspect. But they did admit Handy is on a list of people they want to talk to about the shootings.
Police said they haven't been able to talk to him yet, because after his arrest he immediately asked for an attorney.
When a police spokesman was asked if it was just a coincidence that Handy was arrested on the same night the bodies were found, he replied that sometimes it just takes a while to find who you're looking for.
