RENTON - A missing car might provide key clues in the murder mystery of a local woman.
Nici Pietz, 32, disappeared last month after leaving her home in Lynnwood to meet with friends. Her body was found more than a week later in a wooded area in Burien.
The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide and said she had been strangled.
But the car that Nici was last seen driving has still not been found, and her friends hope finding it might provide clues that will lead detectives to make an arrest.
Donna Flock was among a dozen of Nici's friends who gathered Saturday to search for the missing car. "We're going to pass out flyers to everyone who can get some out today, alright?" she said to the group.
The friends gathered in a church parking lot with a mission: to get pictures of Nici's car to as many people, in as many places, as possible.
"It's important to the police and there must be a reason for that. They are looking for particular things and without the car they can't find those pieces," Flock said.
When Nici left her condo on Jan. 28 to meet with friends, but she never made it. She was also supposed to meet her husband for a dinner party with friends later that night, but never made it there either.
He body was found dumped and strangled on Feb. 6 by a man on a walk through the woods near Sea-Tac Airport in south Burien.
"Everybody that came in touch with her loved her," said Barbara Arionus while passing out pictures of the missing car on Saturday. "She would do anything for you, she would do as much for you as she could."
Nici was driving a dark grey 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, with the licence plate, 991-TEF. Her friends are convinced it may hold the key to who killed her.
Some of her friends are even turning to the Internet to make sure the picture is posted across the country.
"E-mail is a great source," said Christina Keys. "I've got friends in California, Arizona and Oregon. And the fact of the matter is, if the car is gone, they may have headed some place else."
The poster canvassing Saturday was not just restricted to telephone poles. Her friends were placing them anywhere they were allowed.
"By any chance can we hang one of these flyers on the window?" asked one of Nici's friends of a local barber. "Sure," was the reply from the store owner, and up went the poster.
The group fanned out through area neighborhoods posting flyers and putting them in the hands of anyone who would stop and listen.
"I know in my heart she's okay and she wants us to go on," said Carla Zukowski. "but I'm trying really hard not to be angry."
And so the group pushes on, flyers in hand, hoping to turn up a piece of evidence in Nici's murder.
Investigators say the car could hold important clues, including Nici's cell phone, Blackberry and her wallet.
