RAYMOND, WASH. - A home where Nirvana once played a house
party 19 years ago is up for sale.
Owner Gary Aust is hoping fans of the grunge band will have
enough interest and money to purchase the home he has listed on
eBay.
"It's kind of a novelty," Aust said. "How often do you end up
with a piece of property like this that has a connection to a band
as popular as Nirvana?"
The sale site has had more than 4,300 hits, but as of Wednesday
afternoon there was a single offer of $165,000. That doesn't meet
Aust's undisclosed "reserve" minimum.
The 1,300-square-foot house occupies .13 acres at 17 Nussbaum
Road. The property's estimated value is $61,200, according to the
Pacific County assessor's office.
Aust, who wants to build a new house, said he hopes for a lot
more than that because of the "historic significance of the
home."
He listed the home in late March. The auction is open until
April 23.
On March 7, 1987, the then-fledgling grunge band traveled from
Aberdeen to Raymond to play its first gig at the Nussbaum Road
house party.
Aust said he gained ownership of the property about two years
ago during a land swap. He currently rents it out, he said, and
Nirvana fans continue to visit the home.
A few years ago, Aust said, a couple from Belgium made the trek
to the home just to take their picture in front of a wooden sign
giving the home's address.
