Two Seawolf Submarines To Be Based In Bremerton
BREMERTON - Two Seawolf-class attack submarines that are being transferred from the East Coast will be based in Bremerton rather join a third on Hood Canal at Bangor, home to the larger Trident subs, Rep. Norm Dicks says.

As part of a military realignment, Dicks announced in February that the USS Seawolf and USS Connecticut will move in the summer of 2007 from Groton, Conn., to Naval Base Kitsap, which includes both Bangor and Bremerton.

At that time Navy officials had not decided whether to base the two subs in Bremerton or Bangor, said Dicks, D-Wash. He announced the new plan Saturday in a speech at the Puget Sound Naval Bases Association's anniversary celebration.

Three additional submarines arrived at Bangor late last year, bringing the total number of subs based there to 11.

Bremerton, site of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, is currently the home port of the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis.
