SEATTLE - We know what happened December 7th, 1941-- the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. But how many of us know what happened just hours later?
Lou Gopal knows. And he's produced a documentary about it called "Victims of Circumstance." It details the Japanese bombing of the Manilla, hours after the Pearl Harbor attack.
And the documentary focuses on the 7,000 Americans rounded up and thrown into prisoner of war camps, including Lou's Uncle Raymond Leverly.
"I want people to know about it," says Gopal. He wants them to know what happened to his uncle, who was starved to death, and what happened to the others.
"It's a little bit of American history that's not well known," says Michelle Bunn.
He conducted 130 hours of interviews. Now, a two-hour documentary recently screened at the MaCarthur Memoria in Norfolk, Virginia.
"Victims of Circumstance" will go on sale on Amazon.com in just a few weeks. Proceeds will be donated to American Internment and POW groups.
