SEATTLE - The list is out, and there are surprises.
A special committee on Tuesday released the names of Seattle schools recommended for closure.
Here's the list of recommended changes and closures:
- Wilson Pacific Program will remain in building
- Adams Building remains open
- Thurgood Marshall Program remains in building
- TOPS K-8 Remains at Seward
- Montlake Remains Open
- Fairmount Park mergers with High Point
- Viewlands Elementary -- close building
- John Marshall Elementary -- close building, relocate programs
- Sacajawea Elementary -- close building
- Martin Luther King Elementary -- close building, merge with T.T. Minor Elementary for 2006-2007. Combine MLK Elementary and McGilvra reference areas for 2007-08.
- Hughes Interim Building -- close building
- Fairmount Park Elementary -- close building, merge Fairmont Park program and High Point Program in the High Point Building.
- Pathfinder K-8 @ Genesee Hill Building -- close building, move Pathfinder program to Boren Building.
- Whitworth Elementary -- close building, merge Whitworth and Dearborn Park programs into Dearborn Park building.
- Emerson Elementary -- close building
- The New School @ South Shore Building -- close South Shore Building, relocate new school to Emerson Building
- Graham Hill Elementary -- close building, consider merging Montessori Program with another school.
A final decision will come from the Seattle School Board in July.
