Seattle Streets Packed For Gay Pride Parade
SEATTLE - The streets of Seattle were packed Sunday morning for the annual Gay Pride parade.

But there was a big change this year that drew even more people to the party -- the parade was moved from Broadway on Capitol Hill to Fourth Avenue in Downtown Seattle.

"It's gotten so unbelievably big, that we can't have it on Broadway anymore," said Cindy Sell. "Even though we'd like to have it on Broadway, we can't, because it's huge."

Organizers decided to make the move to Downtown Seattle to make the party more inclusive and open to everyone.

"We have a few haters," said Nidiah Buckner, "but they're not going to bring down our mood... we're out here to support, and love. So, I'm glad they moved it downtown to the center of attention, because... everything on Capitol Hill -- that's our gay district, and we need to let 'em know we're not only there, we're everywhere."

Even King County Executive Ron Sims joined the party.

"What's it like to have this parade in Downtown Seattle? It's great," he said. "The celebration... it's packed; people are having a good time."

It's safe to say one of Seattle's biggest festivals just got a little bigger.

"We couldn't have asked for a better turn out," Sell said. "Whether you're heterosexual, whether you're gay, it doesn't matter... it's a great crowd, and really good support."

Saturday, members of Seattle's gay and lesbian community held a smaller parade on Broadway along the old route.
