This week, Disney on Ice opened at the ShoWare Center in Kent -- which marks a homecoming for two of the castmembers, who are representing the Pacific Northwest as they tour with the national production.
Called "Rockin' Ever After," the production opened last year and features beloved Disney characters, including Belle from "Beauty and the Beast," and, for the first time, Merida from Disney and Pixar's "Brave." But it's Ariel, from "The Little Mermaid," who Washington residents are keeping a close eye on -- she's played by Kristin Cowan, of Spokane.
Cowan came by skating honestly; her mother, Robin Briley, is also a figure skater. As a result, Cowan grew up on the ice. And she's no stranger to touring; prior to joining the Disney cast two years ago, she traveled Europe, skating with Holidays on Ice.
Also in the cast, which is expected to tour together until 2020, is Alexander "Zander" Moss, from Yelm, who says that while his cherishes his close friends, he loves being on the road, too. Moss calls touring "a wonderful blend of work and adventure."
Skating also runs in the Moss family.
"One of my older sisters was a figure skater," says Moss, "and my younger brother and I started skating soon after we could walk."
Moss, who is also a trained airplane mechanic and has his private pilot's license, definitely has a Northwest sense of humor.
"I get paid to fall down," Moss said when asked to describe his skating style.
"Disney On Ice: Rockin' Ever After" runs through November 18 at ShoWare Center, before moving to Everett's Comcast Arena until November 24. For more information, visit the Disney on Ice website.
