Qantas cancels major order for Boeing 787s

Australian airline Qantas is canceling an order for 35 of Boeing's new 787 jets as it tries to cut costs.
The jets would have been worth $8.5 billion at list prices, although discounts are common on large orders.
The financially struggling airline is still buying 15 787-8s. It is also keeping options that allow it to buy as many as 50 of Boeing's longer 787-9. But it's cancelling orders for 35 of those jets.
Qantas CEO Alan Joyce says the change is part of trying to make Qantas profitable.
Boeing Co. says Qantas has been a long-standing customer and it will work with the airline to help it adapt.

Qantas runs some very long routes, they have been put into the red by raising fuel costs and have been bleeding cash for some time now, this drastic restructuring is a last grasp effort tho save the company.
Tip of the iceberg...
Ouch.
The story fails to mention the company has to pay Qantas almost $4.5 million in late delivery fees on top of the cancellation. Ouch.
So how many 787's has Boeing delieved now? Are all spacies filled with incomplete planes?
 @Commonsense 13 are in serviceÂ
Plenty more where that came from.
The good news is they didnt switch to Airbus
Bummer. I guess the bright side of it is that they are still buying airplanes - just not as many.
