Cornell cuts ties to Adidas, cites workers' rights
ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Cornell University is ending a clothing deal with sportswear giant Adidas amid questions about the treatment of factory workers overseas.
Cornell President David Skorton said in a letter Friday the Ivy League school has "great concern" about reports 2,800 workers were left without $3 million in severance pay when an Indonesian factory closed last year. Some Adidas items were made there.
Representatives for Germany-based Adidas AG haven't responded to email messages sent Friday night.
Adidas has said the severance was the factory owner's responsibility. Adidas said in July it had provided humanitarian aid and job placement help to hundreds of the former workers.
Skorton says Cornell is willing to do business with Adidas again if the company addresses workers' severance issues.

The government of Indonesia has nothing to do with this issue? It falls upon the shoulders of a well to do customer to oversee the operations of a company based in their country? Cornell you have your head shoved firmly in a place the sun donât shine. No surprise there.    Â
@oldster70 I need some new glasses I guess, I thought what I read was more along the lines of "They just don't agree with adidas' business model and have made the decision not to buy there but, is leaving the door open to talk".Â

Workers Rights. What a joke. So how much does Cornell pay their life-injured athletes again?
For that matter who pays the kids their wages for the billions they bring in at any college? The education is already paid for, so where's the justification? And just remember those escalating prices too.
