SNOQUALMIE, Wash. -- A Seattle company is speeding up the process of checking out at the grocery store with help from a new smart phone app.

The Ridge IGA in Snoqualmie Ridge is the first store to test out a new local invention, a self service app called Qthru.

"It's just another way of checking out for those people that are looking for that alternative. We want to be able to supply that," said Tyler Myers, president of the Myers Group.

The app scans the barcode of each item -- even produce -- and when it comes time to pay, customers can skip the long lines and pay by credit card over the phone.

Just so people don't leave without paying, cashiers will be trained to spot Qthru shoppers and check their receipts.

"The most interesting thing about the device is nowadays, people just don't leave home without it.," said Qthru CMO Phil Stafford.

The app isn't just limited to grocery stores, either. The company hopes to roll out the device for use in all kinds of shops.
