Starbucks to roll out $1 reusable cups

NEW YORK (AP) — Starbucks Corp. is rolling out a $1 reusable plastic cup at its cafes starting Thursday.
The Seattle-based coffee chain already gives customers a dime discount each time they bring in reusable cups for refills. Now it's hoping the new cups — which bear its logo and resemble its white paper cups — will increase the habit.
As with other reusable cups, the new cups will be cleaned with boiling water each time customers bring them in. The cups were tested in 600 stores in the Pacific Northwest over the past few months and will be rolled out nationwide and in Canada.
In 2008, Seattle-based Starbucks had said it wanted to serve 25 percent of all drinks in reusable cups by 2015. That goal has since been reduced to 5 percent.

What the article fails to mention is that every time you use the reusable cup, you get a $.10 discount on your coffee. Long term, you're saving a little bit.
sell you the cup for more than cost, you pay them to fill it. They save on (actually make a profit) on controllables, and now people want to use their own paper sleeves? Way to save Starbucks even more money, contribute to their bottom line, advertise for them, and make them "look" environmentally conscious. Smart move on their part. Gotta wonder about people who buy the cups and use their own sleeves though. Maybe they should also bring their own straws and a portable generator to plug in their laptops
We have three already although we don't bring them back for refills, just use them for coffee at home. Love em!
As long as they aren't made in China.
@Agent43 LOL Just looked, they ARE made in China. Good call
Sounds like a good idea.
@SeattleJoe - my wife has a couple three of these.  They work pretty well - but to someone who's not paying any attention, the cup and the lid look enough like the throw away cups that they could end up being thrown out...
Â
they say they should last 30 uses, but the ones my wife has have surpassed that and they still look brand new.
Â
The only hassle is that they transmit heat even faster than the paper throw away cups do. You most likely will need to use the old paper sleeve to keep from burning your digits.

@FormerMarineSgt  @SeattleJoe We got some fabric sleeves for ours from Whole Foods that work well.
