Is that kids' meal toy safe for your child?
Is the toy handed out at fast food restaurants safe for your toddler?
The Good Housekeeping Research Institute sent families into fast food restaurants across the country to find out whether the toys were age-appropriate
Kids' meals are popular fare at fast food restaurants, and so are the kid-friendly toys. But did you know these toys are generally rated for ages three and up?
"When parents take their children to fast food restaurants, they assume that the toys being given to their children are safe and age appropriate," said director Miriam Arond. "However, when the Good Housekeeping Research Institute sent parents across the country to different fast food restaurants we found that, in fact, parents with young kids were being given toys that were for older children.
"At Burger King for instance, parents with young children were given action figures that are not appropriate for young children under age three.
"At McDonald's we experienced the same thing. A little doll, which is for older children, was being given to children under age three.
"When we revisited the fast-food chains, Wendy's was the only chain that each and every time did have in stock a toy for younger children."
The experts suggest checking the toy that comes with the kids meals, and not accepting the toy it if it not age appropriate for your child.
