Keep safety in mind when shopping for toys

Because of better federal regulations, the toys on the shelf right now are generally safer than they've been in quite a few years. Even so, any toy can be dangerous if it's in the wrong hands or used improperly.
Each year about 200,000 kids younger than 15 are treated in emergency rooms for toy-related injuries.
If your holiday gift list includes toys, be sure to keep safety in mind when you go shopping.
"For little children don't buy balloons or a toy with small balls or small parts because it's not appropriate. At certain ages children put everything in their mouth."
Inez Tennebaum, Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has this special warning about small magnets.
"Make sure you keep anything with small magnets away from children. I've looked at the x-rays and it's devastating when you see children with terrible blockages because they've swallowed magnets."
Accidents will happen, but many of them can be prevented. You need to buy age appropriate toys and make sure the kids are properly supervised when they play with them.
