Ever wonder how much a co-worker makes? Or maybe you're interested in what some other job pays.
You can get general information from sites like
payscale.com and
salary.com. Or check out a new site called
glassdoor.com.
It boasts ratings, reviews, and salaries for more than 14,000 companies around the world - all for free.
"We're the only site that takes compensation information all the way down to a per-company basis," said Robert Hohman, who co-founded glassdoor.com.
"The GlassDoor community can not only tell you what a software engineer in the Puget Sound area makes, but they can tell you what a software engineer at Microsoft vs. Amazon vs. Real Network makes."
Armed with this information you can better evaluate an offer and know how hard you can negotiate.
The site uses what Hohman calls a give and get model.
"In order to see information on the site, we ask you to anonymously contribute information."
Hohman says from the feedback he's gotten, the information is accurate. All data are reviewed before it goes live.
