Where to get emergency cash?
Stuff happens -- unexpected things that can drain your savings. Where would you go to get some emergency cash?

You probably don't want to sell stocks right now. And a 401(k) plan is probably the last place you want to turn. So where do you start?

Noreen Perrotta, Money Editor at Consumer Reports says cash in CDs.

"Yes, you will pay a penalty to cash them in early, but it probably would be a lot less than what you would lock in as a loss if you had stocks or mutual funds to sell that this time, particularly because CD rates have not been that high."

Consumer Reports says bonds are one of the "simplest and least-expensive investments to part with."

Another option: Look to your life insurance policy.

"You can either borrow against it, assuming that the policy allows it and that you have sufficient cash in there or you can cash in the policy if you no longer need it," Perrota says.

"These tend to be very long term policies. By the time the cash builds up you may have had it a long, long time and maybe you don't need it anymore."
