Last fry standing: The great French fry face-off
Recent taste-testing conducted by Consumer Reports found fries from Burger King, McDonald's and Wendy's taste just as good as the old-fashioned fries that contained unhealthy trans fats.

Wendy's fries were rated tops for taste, earning a "very good" rating. They had big potato flavor and a texture that is light and crispy on the surface and soft on the inside. The tasters said with a little more browning they could be even tastier.

McDonald's also earned a "very good" rating. Tasters described the McDonald's fries as very flavorful, with crispy texture. Yet they "could be more potato-y," notes Consumer Reports.

Burger King fries were rated "good." Tasters described them as tasting more like oil than potato.

The Burger King fries also contained the most fat and calories, coming in at 23 grams of fat and a whopping 480 calories for a medium order of fries, compared to Wendy's at 20 grams of fat, 430 calories, and McDonald's at 19 grams of fat, 380 calories.

"We're certainly not encouraging people to eat a diet that's based heavily on French fries," said the magazine's deputy health editor Gayle Williams. "But the reality is people do eat them."
