It's the time of year to shop for calendars, and I have a few charity choices you might want to consider.
Vashon Dream Boats Calendar Project
This calendar is a bit risque, but the 12 island residents agreed to bare a lot in order to raise $20,000 for the Vashon Island School District.
Available at: Books by the Way, Vashon Book Shop, Frame of Mind, The Little House, and Silverwood Gallery on Vashon and
online at Amazon.com.
Seattle Children's Hospital
Proceeds benefit Children's uncompensated care, which ensures that quality medical care is available to all Northwest children, regardless of their families' financial resources.
Available at: QFC, Albertsons, PCC and Metropolitan Markets or by calling 206-987-2153
Seattle Humane Society
The money raised will help support the dogs, cats and critters in the Seattle Humane Society's care. Pets featured in the calendar are the result of winning bids at the 2009 Tuxes & Tails gala.
Available at: the Seattle Humane Society Shelter at 13212 SE Eastgate Way in Bellevue or
online.
100 Hounds of Kirkland
This calendar features Catharine Handfelt's pro bono photography of 13 of Kirkland's favorite "hounds" with net proceeds benefiting the Seattle Humane Society.
Available at the following Kirkland stores: Liberty 123, Simplicity Decor, KOAP Home, Dooley's Dog House, Barkz and Northwest Cellars.
PAWS
This calendar features beautiful photography by B. Sparks of dogs, cats and even a few goats. All proceeds of the calendar help PAWS rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, shelter and find homes for homeless pets. The funds raised will also create a better world for people and animals through education.
Available: online, by calling 425-412-4025, or by visiting the visiting the PAWS Shelter at 15305 44th Avenue West in Lynnwood, or Cat City at 8503 Greenwood Avenue North in Seattle.
The Birds of BirdNote
BirdNote is a nationally-distributed radio series about the fascinating ways of birds, which is heard locally every morning at 8:58 a.m. on 88.5 KPLU. The pictures for this calendar were taken by Paul Bannick of Conservation Northwest.
Available at: The Seattle Audubon Nature Shop at 8050 35th Ave NE in Seattle or online.
Sea Gals
This calendar helps to fund the Sea Gal Program, which makes it possible for Sea Gals to go on many outreach events and enables them to help hundreds of charities. The Sea Gals do approximately 300 appearances per year, most of which are charity fundraisers or youth programs.
Available at: All home Seahawk games, the Seahawk Pro Shop and online.
