SEATTLE -- If you want to help the surviving families of the murdered officers, be certain about where your money is going.

People are promoting all sorts of fundraisers and while most are legitimate some are not.

Con artists follow news events and always look for ways to cash in on the headlines. There have already been reports of fraudulent or questionable phone and email solicitations, which the Lakewood Police Guild does not do.

Most, if not all legitimate fundraisers for the families are being coordinated with the knowledge and approval of the Lakewood Police Independent Guild. They include the following:

• Bank of America branches: Fallen Lakewood Officers Fund

• Columbia Bank branches: Lakewood Police Benevolent Fund

• Lowes Home Improvement Stores

Participating Restaurants:

Ivar's Seafood restaurants - 100 percent of profits from all chowder sales on Dec. 8.

• Papa John's Pizza - 100 percent of profits from sales at all locations Dec. 8 and 9.

• Bonney Lake Applebee's - 15 percent of the bill on Saturday, Dec. 12 ((download coupon).

Benefit Drives:

• Friday, Dec. 11, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Canal Restaurant Seattle - $25 appetizers and soft drinks.

• Sunday, Dec. 13, 3 p.m. to 7p.m. Clover Park Technical College - dinner, auction, raffle.

• Saturday, Dec. 19,11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lakewood QFC - Brat Fry Benefit
$2 for brat, chips and soda with proceeds to LPIG.

Seattle Thunderbirds:

One hundred percent of ticket revenue from online sales between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m on Wednesday, Dec. 9 for the Friday, Dec. 11 game against Tri-City American will go to LPIG -- more information.
