With thousands of new innovative products released every year, how do you know which are worth your hard earned dollar?

Here's how: the Good Housekeeping Research Institute just announced winners of its VIP - Very Innovative Product - Awards for the best innovative products of the year.

The winners are products that stood out among the1,600 evaluated at the institute in the past year.

The institute crowned HP's Photosmart Premium with Touchsmart Web All-In-One Printer ($399) as a winner. Like many of its competitors, the machine lets you copy, fax and scan. But this product is the only one of its kind that can also connect directly to the Internet.

"Once this printer is connected directly to the Internet, you can get applications straight to it," said Stacy Genovese, technical and engineering director. "So that means you can print and view documents without even turning your computer on, things like Google Calendar, Google Maps, USA Today, and the Disney Store."

Nikon's Coolpix s1000pj Camera ($430) grabbed the institute's attention with its built-in projector. With one click, you can display pictures you just took on the wall.

"This camera is really innovative. Instead of having to huddle around the camera with your friends to see pictures, you now project really clear images up to 40 inches on a wall," said test engineer Rachel Rothman.

And the institute didn't just test electronics. Remington's Frizz Therapy Iron ($50) was a top-scoring product in the world of hair care. The fancy flat iron boats properties that protect hair from the elements, including UV rays.
