More winners of the 2010 Very Innovative Product Award
So many products claim they can make your life easier, but which ones really can?
To find out, the Good Housekeeping Research Institute tested more than 1,600 products to find those worthy of its VIP - that's "Very Innovative Product" - Awards.
These products earned the awards because they help you do things other products can't.
Take the Grilling Skewer by Fire Wire, for example. Once you've threaded kabob fixings onto the flexible metal coil, you can spiral it into a zipper-top bag or a bowl for marinating or storing in the fridge. When you're ready to cook you can arrange the coil in any configuration you can think of on the grill grate.
"It revolutionized kabob grilling because the skewers are flexible. You're not dependent on long inflexible sticks," said Sharon Franke, the institute's kitchen appliances and technology director.
Until now, cleaning grill grates and oven racks was time consuming and dirty work, but the Carbona 2-in-1 Cleaner makes the job really easy, because you just slip the grates into the plastic bag or in the full bottle of cleaner and let it soak overnight.
"The next day, just rinse them off, a little light rubbing, and your grates will be cleaned," said Franke.
The institute also selected the Swiffer Sweeper as this year's Hall of Fame Award recipient because it changed the way people clean up around their home.
"We found that it does a better job than using a broom and dustpan and is less of a hassle than the vacuum," Franke said.
