It's the season to hit the beach. But how to protect your gadgets?

Consumer Reports looked at several methods and learned protecting your gadgets doesn't have to cost you a fortune.

Most people don't think about ways to protect their tablets, iPhones, Droids, and e-readers before heading out to the beach.

A number of stores offer fancy bags and covers that could run you upwards of $40. But what you may not know is that you don't necessarily need to spend that much; the solution can be right in your kitchen.

Consumer Reports found a pretty simple Hefty or Ziplock bag provides decent protection. Suck out all the air, and make sure you get a tight seal. Plus you can even use the phone or tablet over the bag.

The only problem? These bags tend to make pictures appear a bit foggy, so you might want to bring your digital camera and invest in a heavy-duty waterproof case for that.

And if you accidentally drop your phone in the water, not to worry. Most gadgets will be just fine once they dry out. Dunk it in some dry rice, which is supposed to help wick away the moisture.
