Free is a good price! And, if you qualify you can get your tax return done for free.
You can e-file for free if your household income is under $58,000.
"The first thing you'll want to do is go to the IRS website and click on that 'free file' button," said Allison Linn, a reporter with CNBC. "There are a number of software options there for you to do your taxes for free."
You may also be able to get free one-on-one tax assistance through a number of volunteer programs.
AARP has walk-in clinics and a toll-free hot line to help low to moderate income families. You don't have to be an AARP member or even be retired to use the program.
The IRS has two free tax-assistance programs you may qualify to use: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE).
Linn has this caution for anyone who gets help preparing their return..
"You want to make sure that it's a reputable organization and that the people you are dealing with are trustworthy," she said. "If you're getting a bad feeling, don't share your information because you don't want to get your identity stolen."
