Scammers are working overtime, sneaking their way into your bank and credit card accounts.
I get consumer complaints almost daily about calls from robots named "Heather" or "Rachel" claiming they can lower your interest rates and fees. I even get the calls on my phones.
The FTC says companies are using auto dialers that send out thousands of phone calls every minute for an incredibly low cost. If the companies are operating illegally, they don't care about the "Do Not Call" list. They don't even bother to screen. Rogue robocallers use fake caller ID information and hidden overseas locations that make them difficult to find.
In an effort to put a dent in the growing robocall scam industry, the FTC, federal investigators, and technology experts will hold a Robocall Summit in Washington, DC on October 18th and they need to hear from you.
If a robot you don't know tries to sell you something just hang up. The FTC says do not press 1 to speak to a live operator and do not press any other number to get off the list. Pressing numbers on the keypad simply signals the scammers to call you more. Don't wait for a human to come on line. Just make note of the phone number on your caller I-D, take down the robo information, hang up the phone, and file a complaint with the FTC.

When we had our Comcast voice line installed for a small business it immediately started received lots of robocalls. Comcast wouldn't let us cancel the line since it was virtually useless. Found an easy solution by hooking it up to a fax machine. Now the callers get an unwelcome answer when they call us. For our business we just use our cell phones.
Anyone get a bunch of robotcalls from that guy running for senate recently, Tom Cramer (or Kramer?) Holy cow, I finally had to shut that guy down by blocking his number after getting calls several times a day...

I hate robocalls!! And the article is right, you can never track them down.
The only robotcall I receive is from 720-259-1408. Doing a Google search gives lots of results and this number is generally attributed to Comcast. They never leave a voice mail. I finally put the number on a 90 day free exclusion.
